Update Guide for users that installed any Tropico 6 Modkit Version prior to the 9th of July 2025
Unfortunately, you can not update the old ModKit project directly into the newer versions. So, if you had the old ModKit installed, please follow these steps to upgrade to the new versions:
Migration instructions for the Tropico 6 ModKit:
1. Backup your ModKit Tropico6\Content\Mods folder somewhere outside the installation folder (e.g. by dragging it to the desktop).
⚠️! This step is important to not lose your work! ⚠️
The folder is usually located under "C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Tropico6ModKit\Tropico6\Content\Mods” but might differ depending on your installation location set in the Epic Launcher.
This folder contains all your local "Source" assets for your mods, which are necessary to rebuild them in the new ModKit version.

2. Either uninstall the old ModKit via the Epic Launcher or rename the old installation folder (if you have plenty of disk space and want to keep the old version, e.g. for reference).
3. Restart the Epic Launcher.
4. You can now download and install the updated ModKit through the Epic Launcher.
5. Copy your old saved Tropico6\Content\Mods folder you saved from step 1 into the same location within the new ModKit installation.
FAQ
Q: I already uninstalled the old ModKit and forgot to backup the Mods folder. Can I continue working on my Mods?

Q: I uninstalled the old ModKit, but I can not install the new version. The Epic Launcher shows a red exclamation mark icon.A: Make sure to restart the Epic Launcher after uninstalling the old ModKit. Also, verify that the old folder is completely removed or renamed.
