Jagged Alliance: Back in Action gets Mac and Linux Digital Distribution Release

7th February 2014
Kalypso Media is pleased to announce that Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, the latest in the much-loved series of military-themed tactical games, will be available for Mac and Linux via digital distribution on February 14th 2014 for $29.99/£24.99/€29.99. Ported by Big Moon Studios using the Unity engine, the game will now let you liberate the island of Arulco on OSX and Ubuntu as well as Windows. Players who already own the Windows version will automatically get access to the two new versions when they log onto their Steam account and download the game.

Jagged Alliance: Back in Action puts players in control of a private military corporation that has been hired to depose an evil dictator, who has taken over the tropical island of Arulco. Sector-by-sector, inch-by-inch, the player’s squads of mercenaries will recapture the island using their wits, willpower, tactical skills, and of course – plenty of guns.

Jagged Alliance: Back in Action takes players to the fictitious country of Arulco, where a ruthless dictator has seized power and only a small group of rebels stand to resist her. Tasked with freeing the island from the dictator’s iron grip, players will command rebel and mercenary forces while using tactical and economic tools to keep troops supplied and ready for the next flight, all while commanding them directly in nail-biting battles.

Back in Action’s innovative “plan & go” combat system combines real-time strategy (RTS) with turn-based elements to guarantee that the intricacies of tactical warfare are rendered in dynamic, exciting gameplay. This challenges would-be commanders to master not only strategy and tactical combat, but also to maximize their team’s capabilities through RPG-like character advancement.

Key features of Jagged Alliance: Back in Action:

  • Engage in a massive non-linear ground campaign to free the oppressed people of the gorgeously-rendered fictitious country of Arulco, assembling your own motley crew of mercenaries to get the job done.
  • Prowess in strategy and tactics is not enough; can you master the intricacies of RPG-like character development, a challenging economy and the logistics to keep your troops supplied – and strike at the right time with the right skills and proper weapons?
  • An innovative “plan & go” combat system combines turn-based planning with dynamic RTS execution.
  • Assemble your own combat squad from over 40 unique mercenaries, each with a detailed personality profile, including likes, dislikes, strengths, weakness and character flaws.
  • Simultaneously control multiple squads to flank the enemy from multiple sides as you try your hand at advanced combat tactics.

Prepare to Set Sail – ‘Rise of Venice’ – Coming for Windows PC in Q3

5th June 2013
Kalypso Media today unveiled its latest strategy/trading simulation, Rise of Venice, for Windows PC. Rise of Venice drops players in the Renaissance era, where they start out as a young merchant, looking to make his mark and build a trading empire. Begin with a meager group of trading ships and build them into a mercantile fleet that will make your enemies and friends alike green with jealousy as you fill your coffers with gold! Rise of Venice is much more than trading, however, as Renaissance Europe was filled with treachery and political machinations of all sorts – which you must take part in if you plan to succeed!

Venice was at the peak of its power during the Renaissance and was viewed as a city of decadence, beauty and intrigue. Renowned as the linchpin of civilisation and the cultural centre of Europe, Venice was the most important trading post between Western Europe and the eastern stretch of the Mediterranean Sea. It was also the stage for political corruptions and clandestine dealings.

This is where your story begins. As a young man striving for success, power and wealth and with the support of your family, you begin to build up a trading empire across Genoa, Tripoli, Rome, Alexandria, and Constantinople in addition to many other significant cities from the Renaissance. As you progress through the ranks of Venetian society, increasing your power with smart trading moves and calling in the occasional favour, you can begin to assemble your own fleet. With this you will start to build up new production facilities and test yourself in challenging sea battles where you will face off against pirates as well as political enemies.

Features of Rise of Venice:
  • Experience a compelling story full of intrigue and treason in Venice at the time of the Renaissance
  • Trade a variety of goods in the most important cities of the time such as Rome, Alexandria, Constantinople and Athens.
  • With your own family tree you can interact with your family members, send them on missions and watch how the power of your family grows over time.
  • Meet other important families who are pulling the strings in Venice’s government and influence political decisions yourself.
  • Build your own production facilities and trading fleets
  • Take fate into your own hands and test your skills in furious sea battles
  • Multiplayer mode for up to 4 players via LAN and Internet

Rise of Venice will be available on Windows PC in October 2013.

Kalypso Unveils "Omerta - City of Gangsters"

Bracknell, 6th March 2012 – The Capo Crimini of Kalypso Media are pleased to unveil Omerta - City of Gangsters, a strategy game focusing on the activities of organized crime in Atlantic City in the 1920's. In Omerta, players will take on the role of a fresh-off-the-boat gangster, as he struggles to make a name for himself and build a criminal empire in a meticulously recreated prohibition-era Atlantic City.

Gameplay will combine with strategic elements, as players spread their empire across the map, and tactical combat, with players fighting fierce gun battles with rival games and the police. It's all about building your crime family in Omerta - City of Gangsters, which is set for a Q4 release on Windows PC.

Omerta - City of Gangsters is a simulation game with tactical turn-based combat. Taking the role of a fresh-from-the-boat immigrant, with dreams of the big life, the player will work his way up the criminal hierarchy of 1920's Atlantic City. Starting with small jobs, his character recruits a gang and expands his empire by taking territory from other gangsters. Eventually he establishes his own crime syndicate and becomes the de facto ruler of Atlantic City.

The player strategically manages his business and his minions in a real-time format, slowly but steadily increasing his influence over the city. The player sends his henchmen out on missions ranging from assassinating an informant, to raiding a warehouse, springing a friend from prison, robbing a bank, or attacking a rival gang's hideout. Nobody is above the law in Atlantic City, so it always helps to have a little cash handy to bribe a policeman or pay off a politician.

The turn-based combat in Omerta - City of Gangsters focuses on the tactical command of "The Boss" and his henchmen. Cover and stealth are essential parts of any shootout in the game. Finding the best vantage point to gun down an enemy, while taking cover from a hailstorm of ullets, can be just as satisfying as sneaking quietly behind a foe and taking him down.

Features:
  • Historically accurate representation of Atlantic City and its landmarks
  • Strategic gameplay allows city overview, planning, expansion and gathering of intel
  • Turn-based tactical combat with a cover system and stealth action
  • 15 unique player controlled characters each with a unique personalities and backgrounds

KALYPSO MEDIA TO BRING "THEATRE OF WAR" TO PC THIS OCTOBER
Leicester / August 2007

Kalypso Media today issued a call to arms to all budding armchair generals with the announcement of Theatre of War for PC this October. In a crowded RTS market, Theatre of War distinguishes itself from the pack by offering a strong emphasis on realism, historical accuracy and real world military tactics. Those seeking a Rambo-esque experience should look elsewhere, discipline and tactical nous are the order of the day to see this one through to the final act.

Developer Battlefront.com has undertaken painstaking research into shell ballstics, advanced damage effects and even specifics such as armour penetration calculations to bring a truly authentic battlefield experience. Such a level of detail, in a strategy title of this kind, allows players to immerse themselves in the command of a wide variety of units, uniforms, vehicles and military hardware in the knowledge that every decision made will affect the battle's outcome.

Spanning six World War II campaigns, players have the choice of fighting through the eyes of American, British, Russian, German, French or Polish commanders across over forty missions based on real WWII battles, be they in the shell scarred plains of Poland, the bullet-riddled beaches of western France or the frozen tundra of the Soviet Empire's eastern reaches. As the Nazis found out to their peril, weather can have a devastating effect on even the best laid plans. Theatre of War demands players make allowances for similar contingency with all four seasons incorporated, each with its own affect on proceedings on the front line.

Theatre of War offers a thinking man's WWII strategy experience for the RTS fan looking for more than just big guns and a lot of whizz-bang. To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail, and such a mentality must be central to your plans if you are to march victorious through the streets of Berlin or else face your final curtain!

Kalypso will be at Leipzig GC '07, Hall 1 J39, with a number of titles on show. Theatre of War will be published by Kalypso Media for PC this October, priced £29.99

KALYPSO ANNOUNCES "STAR ASSAULT" FOR RELEASE THIS SEPTEMBER FOR PC
Leicester / July 2007

No, Russell Crowe hasn't attacked another hotel clerk, but Kalypso media has announced a new space shooter. Star Assault is due for release this September for PC and promises to offer more drama than any celebrity courtroom could ever hope.

When humankind took to the stars to search out new energy sources, rapid successes brought huge rewards in the advancement of travel, exploration and colonisation. Some thought they had taken it too far, they were right. In 2253 the human pioneers found themselves under brutal attack from the vicious alien race dubbed the Sparks. Cut off from Earth due to the destruction of their warp gate, their only route back, the intrepid explorers now must battle for their very survival, and maybe even a way home.

A rich story-based campaign offers players the chance to pilot a star fighter and accomplish the death-defying missions against the Sparks. From humble beginnings in a small ship, players can work their way through the ranks, improve their skills and eventually command wingmen in battle. Complex opponent A.I. ensures you won't be mastering any predetermined attack patterns, while real-time space jumps make getting from A to B just that bit faster.

Between missions, upgrading one's fly machine is essential to avoid an early union with the great beyond. Shields, reactors and propulsion can be adjusted and replaced in order to stay one step ahead of the enemy. Weapons vary from lasers and rail guns to heat seekers and rockets to give you all the firepower you could possibly need to see off your grizzly foe. Star Assault will offer galactic battles to warm the hearts of any sci-fi shooter fan, and not an angry Colin Farrell in sight.

Published by Kalypso media, Star Assault is due for a September release for PC, priced £19.99.

KALYPSO ANNOUNCES "HOLLYWOOD PICTURES 2" FOR PC THIS SEPTEMBER
Leicester / July 2007

Kalypso media today rolled out the red carpet for the announcement Hollywood Pictures 2 for PC this September. The aim of the game is producing blockbuster hits for the movie hungry masses. Starting with a shoestring budget, amateur camera crews, wannabes, 'has-beens' and 'never-has-been' actors, dig out a winner and you'll soon find your way on the road to Scorsese status.

Players are responsible for every facet of the movie making process from script to screen. Screenplays can be bought from aspiring writers or written yourself for a truly personal project. Once financial backing has been secured from the bank, hiring your star, co-star and supporting roles are next on the list of priorities, along with choosing the right camera crew, make-up artists and special effects team.

The scruffy movie studio site you inherit at the beginning of the game can be expanded to help ease the costs of big movie production. In addition to your basic production house, special effects studios, acting colleges and even a fire department can be constructed to quell those inevitable pyrotechnical accidents on set, which can cost you valuable days filming!

As with any major movie project, yours must be on budget, on time and screened to rapturous applause. Starting with the ambition of producing a film with a '10' rating, aspiring Spielbergs can also target a place for one of their films in the all-time charts, and not forgetting to be in the academy's mind when Oscar time comes around. It can be a rotten business that'll chew you up and spit you out, but stay focused, keep the hits rolling and it will be your handprints outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Pubished by Kalypso media, Hollywood Pictures 2 will be released for PC this September priced £19.99
